In 2014, Chen Wu-Kang met the Taiwanese video artist Ray Sun in New York, which marked the new beginnings of their individual artistic journeys.  The brief encounter between the two artists left the traces to be picked up for future exploration concerning video and dance, particularly the fundamental artistic pursuit of liveliness and the reappearance of aura.  Out of Now in 2016 was a work-in-progress production of their research on dance and video.  Later in Thank You So Much For Your Time, which premiered at the 2019 DAGUAN International Performing Arts Festival, the collaboration with KO Blaire (music), SHYUE Joanne (lighting), LIAO Yin-Chiao (setting), and SUN Wei-Chen (stage management) further expands the theatrical viewing-angle that may cover the whole space where the performance is taking place.   The creator-performers on stage are searching for the aura of a live performance with their respective profession, and by doing it, they create a scene in front of us which seems obvious but can be obviously questioned and emphasized.

Departing from the liveliness of both flesh and media, Thank You So Much For Your Time is an artistic attempt involving action, self-questioning, and aspiration.  Through the well-developed narrative built on liberated but yet ritualistic sections, it reflects on the transitional moment of life shared by us with an intimate touch.  It sets up a conversation to evoke an awareness of seeing and being, while the performers arouse the collective perception of the public to crystalize a momentary shared experience.

Theme Song

Throughout the four seasons

Where the aura has gone

How little in fate is left for us to expect

How small a thought it takes to fill up a whole life

Everything is equal in spring at its peak

though some branches in blossom are long and others are short.

Everything is equal in spring at its peak

though some branches in blossom are long and others are short.

Eyes are the best for learning

Even by observing the trash

Allows us to learn something

We see him staring at us.

Why not to ask him

Is the toilet paper

Rolled inward or outward

Everything is equal in spring at its peak

though some branches in blossom are long and others are short.

Everything is equal in spring at its peak

though some branches in blossom are long and others are short.

It is a single flash of revelation of the deconstructed aura, while it is also the reconstruction of aura, to democratize it like a republic.  Here, everyone possesses their own here-and-now, with an equal right to enjoy their own aura.

-CHEN Tai-Sung

The social relationship proposed by Thank You So Much For Your Time can be considered a process of becoming characterized by the momentary here-and-now, and the subject within is responsive and inclusive, able to take action without the attempt to become a fixed and predictable organization or though.
