Graduated from the MFA program in Performance and Choreography, Graduate Institute of Dance, Taipei National University of the Arts. B.S in Mathematics, National Chung Cheng University.

 

CHENG was a short-term NTCH resident artist in 2017. He first studied mathematics and changed to dance. He is interested in the basic principles of body in dance movements. In his dance work, he usually borrows from physical principles in order to generate concepts for body movements. He is good at using detailed analysis and deconstruction to provide supporting stones for emotions in his work.

 

CHENG joined HORSE in 2012. He performed Velocity, To every man his dog and other company’s works. CHENG also started to perform with many companies and individual artists including HORSE, Shu-Yi and Dancers, The Tussock Dance Theater, LIN Wen-chung, YU Yen-fang, TAO Wei-chun, Baboo, LIN Ren-chung, and Emma Martin. CHENG performed with groups such as the Needcompany from Belgium at the 2017 TIFA show The Time Between Two Mistakes, Xavier Le Roy’s Retrospective at the 2016 Taipei Biennial, and CHEN Wu-kang’s Playdead in the 1+1 Dance at the NTCH 2014. In addition to indoor theatres, CHENG also performed in environmental theatres, outdoor theatres, and worked as movement design.

 

Since 2016 CHENG started to choreograph, mostly solo pieces. Performances include My First Show Program in 2016 sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Falling Behind the Peak in 9th Taipei Fringe Festival, Mercury Conjecture for NTCH in 2017, The Sum of All Resistances for NCAF in 2018, Conditions of Momentum in the 2018 New Points on Stage by Song Yan Creative Lab, Touchdown in Mixed Program for NTCH in 2019.
