While in the midst of self-reformation, HORSE embarks on a new journey of creation, this time inviting all-round artists HUANG Jian-Wei and TSAI Pao-Chang to collaborate with CHEN Wu-Kang, CHANG Tzu-Ling and SU Wei-Chia. The team explores untried modes of creation and develops storylines with a combination of fantasy and realism to depict the mix of the physical and the intangible in people. Blurred, overlapped and intersected timelines are molded into something like a storyline to present human beings’ psychiatric expressions such as role confusion, schizophrenia, multiple personalities and self-identity confusion. This work discusses one’s perception of his/her own existence, which has been through trials of life, from one’s memories.
Starting with a person’s formation and birth, the work digs into how a person’s life is related to and motivated by each of his/her creation. I diagnoses how a person looks at the existence and positioning of his/her unique and individual “I”. As human beings, we all need to learn to see ourselves through different stages of our life and believe but also question everything that may change.
The series of questioning during the creative process is in fact a sign of one confronting his/her sense of smallness, and such a search for answers would seemingly end in vain. When you strive to create meaning for life, you could end up realizing that nothing around you has been influenced. But the truth is that everything will bring change to our life.
“I is a compact piece of experimental theater that embodies a theater artist in succinctness. It invites two theater artists, who are both first-time dancers, to put on an agile display of emotional expressions and couple those with rhythmic precision and subtlety of physical movement. Teaming up with HORSE, they gave a fluent and comfortable rendition!”
